Obsidian Flames

Obsidian Flames is the third main expansion in the Scarlet & Violet era of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. The set is heavily centred around Charizard, introducing a powerful new version of the Pokémon with a unique Dark-type Tera form.

This expansion highlights the Terastal Pokémon ex mechanic, which reflects the Terastal phenomenon from the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet video games. Terastal Pokémon appear with a crystal-like crown and often have altered typings compared to their traditional forms.

The standout Pokémon of the set is Charizard ex 223/197, a Special Illustration Rare card featuring Charizard in its Dark-type Tera form surrounded by blazing flames. Because of Charizard’s immense popularity, this card quickly became the defining chase card of the entire expansion.

Obsidian Flames also includes a variety of Illustration Rare (IR) and Special Illustration Rare (SIR) cards featuring detailed full-art scenes. These cards showcase Pokémon interacting with environments and trainers in visually striking artwork.

The set also features several fan-favourite Pokémon such as Ninetales, Tyranitar, Dragonite and Absol, each appearing in beautifully illustrated cards that have become popular among collectors.

With its focus on Terastal Pokémon and the introduction of a unique Dark-type Charizard, Obsidian Flames quickly became one of the most talked-about sets of the Scarlet & Violet era.
